Overview
Neck Pain Management from Neurology & Pain Treatment Center
Most adults will experience some form of neck pain in their lives. Pain in this area is common and may result from a variety of causes, including:
- Overuse and inappropriate positioning trigger strains
- Whiplash
- Joint disease produces arthritis
- Injuries alter connective tissue attachments
- Disc protrusions
- Torticollis (wry neck)
- Strains and sprains
- Nerve root abnormalities
- Poor posture
Risks of Neck Surgery
An anesthesia reaction can cause complications. The surgery itself can cause damage to nearby structures including the spinal cord, vocal cords, or esophagus.
Once surgery is complete, the incision site could become infected. During recovery, eating and drinking will be difficult for a period of days. Hospitalization can last up to a week without complications. A neck brace may be needed for additional support while healing.
